HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Pirates win thriller; Pikeville, Valley post wins

Belfry took the lead away from Floyd Central in the final minutes and held on for a 56-55 win in a game played on Tuesday night.

Jenna Sparks was outstanding for the Lady Pirates as she finished with a triple-double, scoring 19 points, grabbing 19 rebounds, and blocking 10 shots as Belfry moved to 3-2.

Cushi Fletcher led in scoring with 22 points.

Jada Johnson paced the Lady Jaguars, who lost for the first time this season in six games, with 19 points. Kennedy Harvel followed with 15 and Kamryn Shannon added nine.

Pikeville built a double-digit, halftime lead against Paintsville and pulled away in the second half to score a 64-47 win in a game played at the T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Trinity Rowe led a trio of Lady Panthers (4-1) in double figures with 20 points. Rylee Theiss finished with 19 and Kristen Whited tossed in 11.

Paintsville’s Emilea Preece paced the Lady Tigers (3-2) with 17 points and Kylie Kinner added 13. Leandra Curnutte chipped in nine.

Shelby Valley used a big second quarter to build on its lead as the Lady Kats knocked off Lawrence County, 60-51, in a game played at the Shelby Valley Sports Center on Tuesday night.

Cassidy Rowe fired in 20 points and Alyssa Elswick added 15 as Valley improved to 6-0. Kyra Looney added nine and Jazzy Meade added eight.

Kensley Feltner poured in a game-high 28 points for the Lady Bulldogs, now 3-2. Kaison Ward scored 11 and Sophie Adkins finished with nine.

Brooke Neal suffered an injury and was forced to leave the game.

Emma Stewart scored nine for the Lady Cavaliers, who dropped to 2-3.
