Class A top seed Man and No. 2 Tug Valley, along with Class AA No. 5 seed Chapmanville, all posted opening round wins in the boys’ West Virginia State Basketball Tournament played at the Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday.

Austin Ball finished with a game-high 27 points and reached 1,000 for his career on a block and breakaway dunk late in the first half to ignite the Hillbillies to a 74-34 rout of eighth-seeded Tucker County. He also grabbed 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double for Man, now 14-2.

Christian Toler followed with 15 points while Peyton Adams added 11 and Jackson Tackett tossed in 10.

Man will move on to face Webster County (12-6) in the semifinals on Thursday night.

Caleb May poured in a game-high 32 points to lead the panthers to a 69-55 win over pesky Cameron. Ethan Colegrove added 15, all in the second half as Tug Valley improved to 14-2.

Ian Reed and Easton Davis followed with eight points apiece. Justin Hall had six to cap the scoring for the Panthers.

Tug Valley pulled away late in the game to advance to play unbeaten Pendleton County in the semifinals on Thursday.

The Tigers moved on with a 46-38 win over Clay County to keep alive their hopes of winning a third straight title. Zion Blevins led the way with 18 points.

Brody Dalton followed with nine points and Colton Craddock tossed in eight as Chapmanville moved to 9-6.

The Tigers will face No. 1 Williamstown in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
