HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Hillbillies score late, stun Panthers

Man wide receiver Trey Ward hauled in a deflected pass off the hands of a Tug Valley defender and raced 65 yards for a touchdown and the Hillbillies converted the two-point conversion with 37 seconds left beat Tug Valley, 22-21, in a Class A showdown of Top 10 teams on Friday night.

Quarterback Devon Sanders passed for 147 yards and two scores, both to Ward. 

Ward added an 85-yard kickoff return for a first-half touchdown.

Tug Valley quarterback Bryson Elia, playing in place of Preston May, finished with 89 yards through the air and two scores. He rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown.

Ashton Davis and Cameron Slone had a TD catch each.

Both teams, now 7-2, will close out regular season play this Friday. The Panthers will host Van (2-7) in a 7:30 pm kickoff while the Hillbillies visit Chapmanville (4-5). Game time is 7 pm.
