HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville falls to KCC; Bulldogs sweep

Knott County Central spoiled the season opener for Pikeville as the Patriots scored a 60-53 win at home on Tuesday night.

Jayden Huff led all scorers with 24 points as KCC improved to 2-0. Hunter Haddix added 14.

Eli Johnson and Charlie Fitzer paced the Panthers with 12 points each.

Nick Knox had a big game, stripping the nets for a game-high 36 points. Tyler Weddington added 20.

Adyn Hayes paced the Cavaliers with 18 points and Mason Webb net 13.

Defending 15th Region champion Lawrence County built a double-digit lead and went on to beat Letcher Central, 58-46, in the season opener at home on Tuesday night.

Sophie Adkins led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points and Kaison Ward tallied 16. Jada Patton tossed in 10.

Keira Couch had 15 points in the loss. Payge Damron followed with 12.

The Lady Bobcats hit 12 three-point baskets.
