HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville, Pike Central capture district titles

The Pikeville Panthers captured their 48th district basketball championship since 1924 and fifth 59th title under coach Elisha Justice with a 65-48 win over East Ridge at the Shelby Valley Sports Center on Thursday night.

Senior Keian Worrix fired in 29 points and Rylee Samons added 12 as the Panthers improved to 28-2. Tate Walters chipped in 10.

Isaac Woods paced the warriors with 19 and Eli Sykes added 14 in the loss.

Both teams move on to next week’s 15th Region Tournament at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.

The Pike County Central Hawks won their first 60th District title since 2014 with a 62-57 win over Belfry at the McCoy Athletic Center on Thursday night..

Josh Du Toit had 28 points in the win and Jaylan Rigdon added 18. Peyton Compton tossed in 10.

Sal Dean finished with 27 points in the loss for the Pirates. DeMahjae Clark tallied 15.

Both teams move on to next week’s 15th Region Tournament at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.
