HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville, Pike Central win PIT openers

Pikeville ran out to a big lead early on and the Panthers cruised to a 77-38 win over Bath County in the nightcap of the PIT played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Eli Johnson and Carter Hurley paced the Panthers, now 2-2, with 17 points each. Heath Jarrell and Ian Onkst chipped in nine each.

Pike Central’s Jaylan Rigdon hit a free throw with 2.9 seconds remaining to lift the Hawks to a come-from-behind 73-72 win over previously unbeaten Boyd County in the opening game of the PIT played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The win snapped a three -game losing streak for the Hawks, now 2-4. The Lions had won seven straight to start the season.

Jaden Stewart fired in a game-high 31 points and Rigdon finished with 18. Jacob Slone tallied 16.
