Ashland Blazer’s defense did something no team has been able to do since September 2019 – keep Belfry from scoring a touchdown.
The Tomcats controlled the line of scrimmage and road its defense to a 10-3 victory over the Pirates at historic Putnam Stadium in the Class 3A state semifinals on Friday night.
Belfry’s season ends at 8-4. The Pirates were held to just 145 yards on 41 rushing plays, including 75 of those from Isaac Dixon on 21 carries.
Ashland moved to 10-0 and will face Elizabethtown next Saturday morning at Kroger Field. They are playing for the first time in 30 years on championship weekend.
The Pirates were playing for the 15th time in the past 18 years in the semifinals.
