Belfry put together one of its most impressive games all season against Class 6A powerhouse North Hardin, but the Trojans scored on a touchdown pass with just 28 seconds to lead for the first time and escaped the Pirates, 21-20, at Haywood Stadium on Friday night.
The Pirates, now 3-2, either led or was tied for better than 47 minutes and had taken a 20-14 lead on quarterback Brett Coleman’s three-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes, 44 seconds remaining.
Coleman ran 20 times for 154 yards and accounted for all three rushing touchdowns. Running back Isaac Dixon had 130 yards on 24 carries.
The game was tied at 7-all at the break. Coleman’s one-yard run put the Pirates up 7-0 His 15-yard run pushed Belfry up 14-7 late in the third quarter.
The Pirates will journey to Louisa on Oct. 16 to battle Lawrence County (2-0) in a district matchup at the Dawg House. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
