HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Belfry races past Pulaski County

Defending Class 3A champion Belfry built a 14-point halftime lead and the Pirates went on to knock off Pulaski County, 33-13, in the season opener played at CAM Stadium/Haywood Field on Friday night.

The victory was No. 450 for legendary head coach Philip Haywood and the first on the newly-installed turf field.

Senior running back Isaac Dixon rushed 14 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Brett Coleman finished with 64 yards on 10 rushes and one score. Running back Kyle Webb had 66 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Belfry will return to action at Pikeville on Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hillard Howard Field.
