HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Belfry’s Woolum scores 5 TDs in win over BC

Belfry head football coach Philip Haywood began his 40th season with the Pirates down on the Riverbank and it couldn’t have ended any better.

The Pirates ran out to an early lead and went on to defeat Breathitt County, 48-14.

Senior Caden Woolum hauled in three passes for 161yards and three touchdowns. He had TD catches of 46, 56 and 46 yards.

Woolum also ran seven times for 73 yards and two scores. Quarterback Chase Varney passed for 174 yards and three scores.

Running back Ace Caudill ran six times for 161 yards as Belfry amassed 446 yards for the game.

Caudill added touchdown runs of 85 and 55 yards.

Breathitt County’s points came on a three-yard run by Jayden Gibson and three-yard by Braxton Terry.

Austin Sperry had six catches for 124 yards to lead the Bobcats. Isaac Turner caught five passes for 82 yards.

Both teams will return to action next Friday night as the Pirates host George Rogers Clark in the Pike County Bowl at Haywood Field while Breathitt County travels to Perry Central.
