HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Blackcats hold off Leslie County in season opener

Prestonsburg and Leslie County battled back and forth before a late interception return for a touchdown sealed the win for the Blackcats, 30-21, in a game played at Josh Francis Memorial Field on Friday night.

Defensive back Dalton Elliott picked off Eagles signal-caller Dalton Baker at the five-yard line and ran it back 95 yards as time ran out.

Running back Jacob Rose led the ground attack with 162 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries. Alex Harris added a rushing touchdown.

Elliott also scored on a 45-yard pass play from quarterback Bryce Holbrook.

Prestonsburg’s defense finished the game with four picks – Braydon Jarvis had two, Logan Stumbo and Elliott. Alex Harris and Stumbo each recovered a fumble.

The Blackcats (1-0) will return to action on Saturday night against East Ridge (1-0) in the Pike County Bowl at Pikeville. Kickoff is 6 pm.
