HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Bulldogs end 20-year drought, top Pirates

The celebration at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Field in Louisa was 20 years in the making.

Lawrence County running back Dylan Ferguson ran for 123 yards and four touchdowns and the Bulldogs (7-1) defense took away four Belfry fumbles in the final quarter enroute to 35-21 win on Friday night.

Quarterback Talan Pollock passed for 95 yards and an eight-yard TD pass to Kaden Gillispie. He caught 10 passes for 95 yards and threw another for 25.

Belfry, now 4-4, got a pair of short touchdown runs from Dre Young and Aiden Burke returned a fumble 42 yards for a score in the opening minute of the game.

Young rushed 21 times for 58 yards and Caden Woolum carried 11 times for 79 yards in the loss.

Both teams return to action this Friday night as the Pirates host Pike Central (3-5) and the Bulldogs go on the road to Floyd Central (0-8). Both games will kick at 7:30 p.m.
