HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: JC remains No. 1; Belfry now 2nd in latest Super 7 poll

The Johnson Central Golden Eagles held on to the No. 1 position in the latest Mountain Top Sports’ Super 7 football poll released on Monday.

Johnson Central, now 3-0, has won 18 straight games and this past Friday’s win over Clay County was career victory No. 300 for head coach Jim Matney.

The Belfry Pirates (3-1) have leaped over Pikeville (3-1) into the No. 2 spot. Belfry knocked off Floyd Central while the Panthers, now third in the poll, fell on the road to Campbell County. The loss ended a 17-game winning streak.

Paintsville (3-0) remains fourth this week after a big win over Perry Central. Letcher County Central, now 4-0, and Shelby Valley (3-1) are tied for fifth. The Cougars are off to their best start in school history.

Martin County (3-1) rounds out the poll at No. 7. The Cardinals rolled past East Ridge.

Receiving votes this week are Lawrence County (1-0) and Tug Valley (2-0).
