HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Johnson Central shuts down Belfry

Johnson Central kept Belfry’s offense bottled up as the Golden Eagles scored a 35-0 win over the Pirates in the regular season finale played at Jim Matney Field on Friday night.

Eagle running back Zack McCoart had a big game, rushing for 181 yards and four touchdowns, three in the second half as Johnson Central moved to 8-2.

Chase Price finished with 96 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Belfry’s Dre Young led the Pirates, now 5-5, with 46 yards on 13 carries.

Both teams will return to action this Friday as the Pirates host Russell (2-8) in the Class 3A playoffs at Haywood Stadium. Johnson Central will host Lincoln County (2-8). Both games will kick off at 7:30 pm.
