HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: McNamee sets school record in playoff win

Pikeville senior quarterback Isaac McNamee surpassed former Panther signal-caller Matt Branham for the most pass completions in school history with 12 in a 49-0 win over Phelps in the Class 1A playoff game played at Hillard Howard Field on Thursday night.

The two were tied with 360 each prior to the matchup with the Hornets. McNamee passed for 174 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers advance to the district title game next week.

Zac Lockhart, Wade Hensley, and Grant Scott had one TD reception each as Pikeville moved to 10-2. Lockhart caught six passes for 98 yards.

Running backs Brendan Anthony, Carson Wright, and Isaac Duty each ran for a score. Blake Birchfield finished with 152 yards on just eight carries.

Josh Taylor returned Jacoby Thornbury’s blocked Phelps punt for a touchdown. Kicker Aaron Chang converted on all seven PAT attempts.

Pikeville will host either Hazard or Sayre.
