HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Miners fall behind early in loss at Oak Hill

The mountain was just too high to climb for Mingo Central at John P. Duda Stadium on Friday night.

Oak Hill, playing for the first time this season, built a 14-point, first quarter lead and held on to beat the Miners, 34-26.

It was Mingo Central’s second game in three days after opening the season at home to Man.

Quarterback Daylin Goad ran for one touchdown and passed for two others in the loss. Running Zion Martin had a third quarter rushing touchdown. Isa Scales and Connor Thacker hauled in receiving scores.

Martin’s nine-yard run in the third period pulled Central to within two at 20-18. The conversion run failed.

Mingo Central is scheduled to play at Tolsis (2-1) on Oct. 9.
