HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Pikeville dominates in district win over Phelps

Pikeville took charge early on against district opponent Phelps and cruised to a 54-6 victory at Marty Casey Stadium on Friday night.

Quarterback Isaac McNamee passed for 167 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers, now 4-1, bounced back from last week’s road loss at Campbell County.

Running back Nate Collins ran for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns Isaiah Coleman added a rushing touchdown.

Blake Birchfield, Brandon Lowe and Wade Hensley had a touchdown reception each and Zac Lockhart returned a punt 70 yards for a score.

Cainan Land hauled in a touchdown pass from Steven Layne for the Hornets, now 1-4, in the final quarter.

Phelps all-purpose back Dominick Francis was held to 46 yards on 10 carries.

Both teams return to action on Oct. 16 as the Panthers host Hazard (0-4) and Phelps goes on the road to face Sayre (5-0) at Kentucky Christian University. Kickoff for both is set for 7:30pm.
