HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Pikeville falls to No. 1 Eagles

Pikeville wanted to play this week and elected to do so by traveling to top-ranked Lexington Christian on Friday night.

A lightning-quick defense and explosive offense was too much for the Panthers to overcome as the Eagles downed the Panthers, 35-13.

LCA, now 7-1 and coached by former Pikeville standout Doug Charles, was playing at home for the first time all season long.

Pikeville, now 5-2, stayed close early on when quarterback Isaac McNamee fired an 89-yard catch-and-run to Zac Lockhart to make it 7-6 after one quarter.

The Eagles scored the game’s next four touchdowns, including their last, a 35-yard interception return. Pikeville had three turnovers, including a fumble on their opening drive inside the LCA 10.

The Panthers will see if they will play another regular season game this coming weekend or if they are idle until the playoffs begin Nov. 13.
