HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Pikeville rolls past Harlan to reach regional finals

Defending champion Pikeville scored 28 points in a six-minute span of the second quarter and the Panthers went on to beat Harlan, 43-8, in the Class 1A second round game played at Hillard Howard Field on Friday night.

The Panthers, now 9-2, will host Paintsville (6-5) in the regional title matchup this coming Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm. Pikeville won the regular season game on the road.

Quarterback Isaac Duty tossed a pair of touchdown passes – one each to Wade Hensley (50 yards) and Blake Birchfield (31 yards). He finished 5-of-8 and 92 yards.

Running back Brenden Anthony had a pair of first half touchdown runs of 11 and three yards. Tayvian Boykins finished with 89 yards rushing on six carries and a 45-yard rushing touchdown. Blake Caudill added an eight-yard scoring run.

The Panthers have won the last five meetings with the Tigers.
