HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Valley dominates Central in district opener

Shelby Valley erupted for 35 points in the opening quarter and the Wildcats went on to shutout Pike Central, 47-0, in a district matchup played at Hobart Clay Johnson Field on Thursday night.

Wildcat quarterback Russ Osborne passed for 271 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats moved to 403 overall and 1-0 in district play.

Receiver Brady Bentley hauled in five catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Clark Craft ran 52 yards for a touchdown and he picked off a pass and returned it 36 yards for another score.

Brady Johnson had a 40-yard TD reception to push the lead to 41-0 and a running clock.

Jordan Tackett returned a fumble 37 yards for a score.

Valley’s defense held Pike Central, now 5-2, to just 89 yards in total offense.

Both teams will return to action next Friday night as the Hawks host East Ridge (3-4) while the Wildcats welcome Betsy Layne (7-0) for a district showdown. Both games will kick at 7:30 pm.
