It was a night the East Ridge football program hadn’t experienced since 2016.
Quarterback Dylan Burdine, playing in his first game as a Warrior, passed for 153 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 206 yards and two scores to lead his team to a 42-34 win over the Floyd Central Jaguars in a game played at The Reservation on Friday night.
It was East Ridge’s first opening-week win since beating Phelps five years ago. It was also newly hired head coach Donnie Burdine’s first win.
Burdine had TD runs of 8 and 3 yards and tossed scoring passes of 9, 12, and 31 yards. The last coming with just under two minutes to play to push a two-point lead to eight.
Nathan Martin added 74 yards rushing and one touchdown. Receiver Isaiah Adkins hauled in four passes for 68 yards and two scores. Landon Robinson had a 13-yard TD catch.
Zack Mason’s interception in the closing minutes sealed the win. Jo Jo Ratliff had 24 tackles, including 14 solos and Mason finished with 20. Dalton Caudill added 16.
Sheston Johnson rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars. John Johnson added a pair of rushing touchdowns and totaled 60 yards. Bryce Thacker scored once.
Both teams are back in action this Friday night as the Warriors take on Phelps (0-1) in the Pike County Bowl at Belfry while the Jaguars visit Perry Central (1-0).
