HIGH SCHOOL: Miners need clearing to open at East; Tug good to go at Sherman

Saturday night’s WVDHHR school re-entry metrics and protocols map has placed Mingo and Wyoming Counties in yellow status for the week, thus allowing high school football games to be played this coming Friday night.

Mingo Central is scheduled to kick off its season at New Richmond against Wyoming East while Tug Valley will journey to Seth to battle Sherman.

There is still one catch for the Miners, practice was shut down Friday as the result of a low risk COVID -19 case involving a school employee, who was in contact with the football program.

The team will need clearance from the county health department before opening its season.

Meanwhile, Tug Valley and Sherman are good to go, pending any complications this week.

Logan County had moved from red to orange status, allowing teams to practice. The Sept. 4 and 11 games for Chapmanville, Logan and Man have been canceled. Those schools are looking to open the season on Sept. 18.
