HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Pikeville holds off Valley in wild finish

The Pikeville Lady Panthers builtan eight-run lead and held off a furious Shelby Valley rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with a 10-8 win in the quarterfinals of the 15th Region All “A” classic softball tournament showdown played at Robinson Creek on Tuesday night. 

Larren Collins belted a three-run homer while Gracie Hall had two hits, including a double, and batted in two runs in the win.

Cassidy Slater added three singles, scored a pair of runs and knocked in one. Molly Coleman had two hits, scored two runs, and added an RBI.

Izzi Rose collected two hits, scored, and batted in one. Caroline Brown collected two hits, including a triple, walked, and scored two runs.

Kyra Looney paced the Bat Kats with a double, single, walk, one run scored, and she knocked in two runs in the loss. Hunter Adkins added three hits and an RBI.

Makenna Adkins walked, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI. Emily Adkins doubled, singled, drove in one run and scored.

Lexie Akers was the winning pitcher while Lillian Blackburn took the loss.

Pikeville will play Betsy Layne at Martin County on Thursday. First pitch is set for 8 pm.
