While winter sports tips off on Monday in Kentucky, West Virginia announced Wednesday school’s will not be able to start until at least March 1.
The previous target date for basketball, wrestling and swimming was Jan. 1.
He made the announcement as his regular COVID-19 briefing from the state capital.
Gov. Justice said there was plenty of time still left during the school year to be able to get sports teams back on the courts and in the pools.
Seem teams had originally started practice back in early November.
The WVSSAC recently released a revised winter and spring sports schedule. State basketball championships were pushed into early April. All spring sports championships were pushed into the month of June.
Those dates will once again have to be revised because of the governor’s action.
