HIGH SCHOOLFOOTBALL: Belfry scores road shutout at Lawrence County

Belfry’s defense was rock solid, and the Pirates ran up and down the field against Lawrence County, beating the Bulldogs, 36-0, at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The Pirates, who won their 621st game in school history, improved to 4-2 while handing the Bulldogs their first loss in three games.

Running back Isaac Dixon ran for 133 yards and three touchdowns while going over 1,000 in six games. He has rushed for 1,059 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging better than 13 yards per carry.

Quarterback Brett Coleman ran for 75 yards and the game’s first points. Neal Copley added a rushing touchdown in the win. Belfry had 314 yards on the ground.

Belfry, because of COVID restrictions, was scheduled to host Pike Central on Oct. 23. That game has been canceled. Lawrence County will return to action on Oct. 30, hosting Raceland.
