HS VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Betsy Layne, Paintsville, LCC among winners

Betsy Layne continued its solid play as the Lady Bobcats cruised to a 3-0 victory over Magoffin County on the road on Tuesday night.

Alyndra Meade had eight kills, four digs and two serving aces in the 25-14, 25-12 and 25-18 win.

Katie Kidd added nine kills, two blocks, four digs and one ace while Madi Meade totaled 28 digs and three aces. Lauryn Watkins had 12 digs and Emily Johnson added 11.

Prestonsburg…..0

Paintsville dominated its match against Prestonsburg as the Lady Tigers moved to 10-0 this season with a 3-0 win over the Lady Blackcats.

Hadley Hardin had nine kills, three blocks and eight digs in the 25-19, 25-14 and 25-11 win.

Hailey Little added seven kills, five blocks, two digs and five serving aces while Bella Blackburn added 19 assists and five digs.

Letcher Central took control early on against Harlan County and the Lady Cougars rolled to a 3-0 victory in a match played on Tuesday night.

Summer Madden had 16 kills in the 25-10, 25-8 and 25-3 match win.

Autumn Wampler added six kills, two digs and four aces.

Pikeville sweeps tourney foes

Pikeville ran its record to 9-0 with three wins during the Champions of the Mountains Classic, beating Floyd Central (2-1), Russell (2-1) and Letcher Central (3-0).

In the win over the Lady Jaguars, Riley Tavis had seven kills, four blocks, 31 assists, 10 digs and four serving aces in the 25-20, 23-25 and 36-24. Kaylee Wells finished with 17 kills, three digs and 14 digs.

McKinlee Potter had 11 kills, two blocks and 7 digs while Emily Gearheart finished with 25 digs.

Floyd Central was led by Jadyn Hall’s 10 kills and six digs. Allyson Stumbo totaled nine kills and seven digs. Alivia Stumbo had 16 digs and Gabrielle Howard finished with four digs and 12 digs.

In the win over Russell, Wells had 15 kills, two blocks and 14 digs while McKinlee Potter had 10 kills, four blocks and seven digs.

Tavis totaled four kills, seven blocks, 31 assists, eight digs and three aces. Gearheart had 28 digs and Caroline Wright finished with four kills, four blocks and 10 digs.

In the match with Letcher Central, Potter totaled 13 kills, three blocks and seven digs while Kara Lee had 11 digs and two aces.

Wells totaled 13 kills, four blocks, 10 digs and two aces while Gearheart finished with 26 digs.

Letcher Central was led by Sumer Madden with seven kills and Keeka Sexton followed with seven digs.

Jadyn Hall added five kills, three assists and eight digs. Amelia Wallace totaled two kills, 18 assists and two aces.

Floyd Central jumped out to an early lead and the Lady Jaguars went on to score a 2-0 victory over Phelps in the Champions of the Mountains Classic on Sept. 19.

Caley Howard had eight kills while Jadyn Hall and Allyson Stumbo added five each in the 25-8 and 25-11 win.

Amelia Wallace finished with 21 assists.

Phelps’ LaRanda Francis had two kills, four blocks and one dig while Jaycie Stanley finished with one kill, four blocks and one dig.

East Ridge won a close first set against Pike Central and the Lady Warriors went on to sweep the Lady Hawks, 2-0, in the Champions of the Mountains Classic played on Sept. 19.

Hanna Blackburn and Kierstin Coleman had seven kills apiece in the 26-24 and 25-15 win.

Emily Lester had eight digs and Sarah Woods added 21 assists.

East Ridge pulled away in the third set to earn a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Johnson Central in the Champions of the Mountains Classic on Sept. 19.

Kierstin Coleman had seven kills and eight digs in the 25-21, 22-25 and 25-9 win.

Emily Lester added 10 digs while Sarah Woods 18 assists, seven digs and two aces.
