HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Adkins named BWW Player of the Week

East Ridge running back Isaiah Adkins ran for 308 yards and five touchdowns in 15 carries in leading the Warriors to a 54-35 road win over Betsy Layne on Friday night.

His effort has earned him the Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Week honors.

He edged out Mingo Central running back Dylan Vance carried 13 times for 233 yards and four touchdowns. He also hauled in a 42-yard pass for a fifth score as the Miners rolled to a 56-6 road win at Westside.

Here is this week’s special honorable mention:

Tug Valley quarterback Elijah Fluty guided the Tug Valley offense to 429 yards. He completed 15 of 19 passes for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Fluty rushed for two scores as the Panthers defeated Sherman, 32-8.

Pikeville running back Blake Birchfield carried 14 times for 142 yards. He had TD runs of 46, 13 and 28 as the Panthers blanked Paintsville, 36-0.

Logan’s Aidan Slack scored three touchdowns, one rushing from six yards away; a 49-yard pass reception; and a 60-yard interception return in the Wildcats win at Sissonville. He was a perfect six-for-six on PAT kicks.

Chapmanville quarterback Brody Dalton passed for 204 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another in the Tigers 56-20 win over Poca.

Honorable mention:

Pikeville quarterback Duty completed 14 of 17 passes for 189 yards and two scores. Receiver Tayvian Boykins had 82 yards on five catches and scored on passes of 21 and five yards. 

Tug Valley running back Adam Slone ran for 164 yards and one touchdown. Brady Brewer hauled in four passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. 

Mingo Central quarterback Chris Ross ran for 136 yards and three touchdowns in the season opener.

Belfry running back Dre Young rushed 13 times for 141 yards as the Pirates fell at LCA.

Johnson Central running back Zack McCoart rushed 25 times for 144 yards and a touchdown as the Golden Eagles lost15-14 at North Laurel.

Shelby Valley running back Jayden Newsome rushed for 149 yards on 12 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns as the Wildcats blanked Floyd Central, 36-0. Quarterback Russ Osborne ran for 95 yards and two scores and tossed a 66-yard scoring pass play to John Fields.

Martin County running back Dawson Mills had a big game for the Cardinals, who lost at Fleming County, 21-14, rushing for 197 yards on 27 carries and a pair of touchdowns. 

Quarterback Reece Hamilton passed for 120 yards and three touchdowns as Prestonsburg improved to 3-0. Running back Ethan Jarvis ran for 118 yards and three scored on just six carries. He also had a 12-yard TD reception. 

Logan quarterback Jaxon Cogar passed for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Betsy Layne running back Reese Music had another big rushing game as he ran for 255 yards and two touchdowns on only 10 carries in the Bobcats loss to East Ridge.

Letcher Central running back Keyante Miller ran for 100 yards and a score on 10 carries in the Cougars shutout win over Pike Central.
