Letcher Central snapped a scoreless tie with a five-run, third inning and the Cougars went on to beat Wolfe County, 8-0, in the opening round of the 14th Region tournament played at Campton on Tuesday night.
Winning pitcher Canaan Cunniff scattered four hits and fanned five as Letcher Central improved to 20-14.
Quinton Williams belted a home run and singled while scoring a pair of runs and driving in three. Jonah Little had a pair of hits, scored once and added an RBI.
Aiden Fields singled and scored while knocking in two runs. Cunniff added a pair of doubles.
The Cougars will face Hazard in round two.
