Letcher Central grabbed an early eight-run lead and the Lady Cougars turned away Hazard, 8-5, in the opening round of the 14th region tournament played at Wolfe County on Tuesday night.
Autumn Wampler had two hits, including a double, scored one run, and batted in two as Central improved to 19-9.
MacKenzie Nantz had a pair of singles and scored two runs while driving in one.
Winning pitcher Alyssa Nicely tripled in one run while Tori Holcomb singled and scored two runs.
