53RD DISTRICT SOFTBALL: LCC holds off KCC in wild finish to win championship

Letcher County Central built a 10-run lead against Knott County Central and held on to score a 14-13 win in a wild finish at Cordia on Memorial Day.

The Lady Cougars improved to 24-10 and captured the district championship. KCC dropped to 23-9.

The game featured 15 extra base hits, including four home runs by the Lady Patriots.

Abigail McDougal had a pair of triples, two singles, scored three runs and knocked in a pair of the Lady Cougars. Raygan Anderson had two hits, including a double, walked, scored, and added three RBIs. Chloe Wampler, MacKenzie Nantz and winning pitcher Makennah Johnson batted in a pair of runs each.

Losing pitcher Kennedi Sandlin belted a home run, doubled twice, singled, and knocked in three runs. Kylie Gayheart hit a home run and doubled twice as well in the loss. Brooke Mason and Brook Baker each homered.
