60TH DISTRICT BASEBALL: Phelps advances to title game with win over PCC

Phelps is getting hot at the right time of the season.

The Hornets used timely hitting and solid pitching to score a 9-3 win over Pike County Central at in a semifinal matchup played at Massey Energy Field on Saturday.

It marked the third straight win for the Hornets, now 8-10, and punched their ticket into tonight’s championship game against Belfry and an automatic bid into the regional tournament field.

Caleb Dotson was the winning pitcher. He also had two hits and scored a pair of runs.

Christian Land had two hits and drove in one run while Cainan Land, Gaige Runyan and Jordan Blankenship each had a hit and added an RBI apiece. Blankenship scored twice.

Bryce Adkins singled and drove in a pair of runs for the Hawks, who saw their season end at 14-14. Caleb Mouton added two hits and batted in one run while Keegan Bentley doubled, singled, walked and scored twice.

Ben Huffman was the losing pitcher.

Phelps and Belfry (21-11) will play for the championship tonight at 6 p.m.
