60TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Belfry holds off Pike Central late to claim title

Belfry held off a furious fourth-quarter surge by Pike Central to win the 60th District championship, 72-67, in a matchup played at the Hawks Nest on Friday night.

Sal Dean led a balanced scoring attack for the Pirates (16-9) with 20 points. DeMahjae Clark followed with 19 and Tyler Chaffin tossed in 14.

Josh Du Toit paced the Hawks, now 16-10, with a game-high 26 points. Jaylan Rigdon tallied 18 and Latee Childress added 12. Kasope Lawrence chipped in eight.

Belfry will begin 15th Region tournament play against Shelby Valley (17-8) on March 23. Game time is 6:30 pm.

The Hawks face Betsy Layne (12-10) at 8:15 m on March 22.
