HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lyon County delivered a performance fit for a ‘King’

Lyon County star Travis Perry, his teammates, coaches, and fans soaked it all in at Wayland Gymnasium on Saturday night.

The Lyons made the 354-mile journey from Eddyville into the mountains of eastern Kentucky to face Floyd Central in the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame game before an overflowing crowd of 600-plus and lived up to their billing.

Perry, the state’s all-time leading boys scoring king, fired in 30 points and teammates Brady Shoulders and Jack Reddick added 27 each as Lyon County roared to a 110-72 win over the Jaguars on King Kelly Court.

Ronnie Samons and Braden Moore did their part to keep the Jaguars in it, but the run-and-gun Lyons simply had too much fire power. Samons finished with 22 and Moore 18.

What about playing in the historic gymnasium?

Coach Ryan Perry, Travis’ father, said it was humbling.

“This place is special. You look around, and everywhere you look is just historical. Until you walked through those doors, and feel it, and smell it, and hear it, and all that kind of stuff, it just doesn’t do it justice.”
