The University of Pikeville Bears took a late lead against Reinhardt University only to see it slip away in a 41-35 double-overtime road loss on Saturday.
Quarterback Lee Kirkland scored on a one-yard run with 1 minute, 14 seconds remaining, but the Eagles sent the game into overtime with a TD run by quarterback Taylor Jackson with 17 seconds left.
Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the overtime before the Eagles stopped the Bears and scored in the second extra period to win.
UPIKE dropped to 3-3.
Kirkland completed 19-of-34 passes for 243 yards and three scores. He also ran for two. Senior tailback Alex Sanders ran for 126 yards on 22 carries.
The Bears return home to host Kentucky Christian University (0-6) on Saturday. Kickoff from W.C Hambley Athletic Complex is set for 7 pm.
