HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Eagles running back named Player of the Week

Johnson Central running back Carter Conley ran for 180 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Golden Eagles to a 55-19 win over Class 6A Fern Creek in Lexington in Friday night.


His effort has earned him the Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Week award.

He edged out several top performers.

Special Honorable Mention:

Betsy Layne running back Reese Music ran for 303 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bobcats to a 43-18 road win at Morgan County.

Shelby Valley quarterback Russ Osborne passed for 260 yards and four touchdowns, all in the opening half, as Valley put a running clock on the Hawks and went on to score a 59-7 victory> He ran for a fifth. 

Chapmanville running back Kohl Farmer ran for 196 yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers win over Sissonville.

Honorable mention:

Belfry running back Dre Young rushed for 184 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns as the Pirates defeated Bourbon County, 42-14. Quarterback Chase Varney ran for three first-half touchdowns.

Pikeville quarterback Tayvian Boykins ran for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Panthers dropped to 0-2 for the first time since 2009. He ran 29 and five yards for scores. Running back Blake Birchfield added 110 yards on 14 carries and a 77-yard TD sprint in the third quarter.

Shelby Valley running back Jayden Newsome rushed nine times for 93 yards and two scores. Brady Bentley hauled in three passes for 82 yards and two scores.

East Ridge quarterback Dylan Burdine passed for 238 yards and one touchdown and ran for another in the Warriors 22-16 loss to Harlan. Teammate Zach Mason had a 21-yard TD pass and came away with a big interception on defense.

Johnson Central’s Zack McCoart had a big game as well with 132 yards and a touchdown on just eight rushing attempts. McCoart also hauled in a 45-yard TD pass from quarterback Jacob Grimm.

Prestonsburg running back Ethan Jarvis ran for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Blackcats moved to 2-0 with a 26-18 road win over Magoffin County.

Floyd Central’s BJ Petersen rushed for a touchdown, returned a kickoff back 73 yards for a score and kicked four PATs in the Jaguars loss to Perry Central.
