MTS/BWW PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dixon makes it back-to-back honors

Belfry running back Isaac Dixon ran for 376 yards and five touchdowns, accounting for 32 of the Pirates 33 points in their state championship game win over Paducah-Tilghman on Saturday.

He also led the team with seven tackles as Belfry won its 8th title.

His effort has earned him the Mountain Top Sports/Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Week honors for the second straight week.

This week’s special honorable mention:

Pikeville running back Blake Birchfield rushed for 179 yards and two first-quarter touchdowns on 30 carries as the Panthers defeated Russellville, 30-23, win the Class 1A state championship game.

East Ridge’s Leah Wells had games of 28 points and 15 rebounds and 31 points and 12 rebounds.

Martin County’s Brady Dingess scored 30 points against Pikeville and then poured in 33 points in a win over Russell and is now 41 points shy of 2,000.

Floyd Central’s Ronnie Sammons had games of 16 and 22 points as the Jaguars opened with back-to-back wins.

Lawrence County’s Cody Maynard and Trenton Adkins had games of 20, 17, 16 and 15, 12, 20, respectively as the Bulldogs start 3-0.

Paintsville’s Connor Fugate had 11 points and 11 rebounds and 24 points and 10 rebounds. Colby Fugate had games of 14 and 30 points for the Tigers.

Honorable mention:

Johnson Central running back Zack McCoart rushed for 111 yards in the Golden Eagles state championship game loss to Boyle County. Chase Price ran for a touchdown. He finished with 62 yards.

Shelby Valley’s Cassidy Rowe had games of 14 and 21 points to start the season.

Paintsville’s Kylie Kinner scored 18 points in her first varsity start in a win over Pike Centra.

Betsy Layne’s Madi Meade had games of 15, 23 and 17 points.

Pikeville’s Trinity Rowe had games of 14 and 24 points.

Betsy Layne’s Andrew Kidd with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the season opener.
